jimskisbreck13 Panels are currently covered with snow. Low daytime temps mean the snow doesn't melt and the panels are not warmed by the sun. The result is both the PV & hot water systems are completely inactive at this time. Possible solutions (& negatives) that I have thought of include:Salt - corrosiveGlycol spray - unsustainableHot water - unsustainable / ice problems / differential tempLong brush - panels are too high on the roofRoof access difficult due to snow coverage and pitch - 40 degreesIt is possible that I may build a gantry next Summer but doesn't promise to be a very elegant solution. The gantry would give access sufficient to use a brush / scraper.Has anybody come up against this problem and have a worked solution?Willy Wilson I wonder if you could get up there at some point andwax the glass so the snow will just slide off. Ormaybe use Rain-X, the stuff you can spray on your carwindshield for that purpose. I think Rain-X is justspray-on wax.bwygrps (g) The solution--move the panels off the roof. Snow stays on panels in northern climes due to the reasons you mentioned. That's a major reason to *not* put panels on roofs--pitched roofs, in particular--in the first place.
